A House Is Never Just a House

I spend a lot of time looking at houses.

Bedrooms. Square footage. Comparable sales. Days on market. Price per square foot. Those numbers matter. They're part of my job.

But they're not really what makes a home valuable to the person who lives there.

A home is where birthdays happened. It's the kitchen everyone somehow ends up standing in, even when there's plenty of room everywhere else. It's the backyard where friends gathered, the garage where projects were started, and the spot on the couch that somehow became yours without anyone ever deciding it.

It's where kids grew up.

It's where dogs scratched the floor.

It's where holidays were celebrated, difficult days were gotten through, and ordinary Tuesday nights happened that nobody thought much about at the time.

And I think those ordinary moments are probably what make a home a home.

That's something I've come to appreciate more and more through real estate.

Every home has a story.

Sometimes you're helping someone buy the place where they're going to start making those memories.

Other times, you're sitting across from someone who has spent ten, twenty, or thirty years making them.

Maybe the kids are grown and the house has become too big. Maybe a growing family needs another bedroom. Maybe a new job is taking them somewhere else. Maybe they've built equity and are starting to wonder what else might be possible.

And sometimes they don't know what they want to do yet.

That's okay too.

I don't believe my job is to convince someone that it's time to sell their house.

My job is to listen.

To understand what matters to them.

To give them good information.

To explain their options.

And when they're ready to make a decision, to help them navigate it with confidence.

This is your journey. I'm just here to guide it.

That phrase has become important to me because I think it describes exactly what I want my role to be.

I'm going to know the numbers. I'm going to study the market. I'm going to tell you when I think something is a good decision, and I'm going to tell you when I don't.

But ultimately, it's your home, your family, your money and your decision.

I'm there to help you understand what those decisions mean.

Because when someone asks me to help them buy or sell a home, I'm being invited into a small part of their story.

I don't take that lightly.
